Get rid of irritating Prickly Heat

Prickly heat can be irritating eruption of the skin due to blocking in the sweat glands. Heat rashes and tiny swellings are formed on the skin. This condition can cause severe itching. Generally, prickly heats occur in hot and humid conditions. But it can also arise in cold weather if you are overdressed. Infants and new born babies are more likely to get affected by prickly heat. If babies are covered with too many clothes or plastic pants, then sweat gets trapped in the body and makes the skin itchy. Prickly heat starts from the neck and spreads to chest and back. Some allergies can also cause rashes and itching.

You can try some home remedies to treat prickly heat. If it is not a serious condition, then the heat rashes will disappear in a couple of days.

Application of calamine lotion can help to heal heat rashes quickly. This will also help your skin to cool down.

Try to avoid synthetic clothes and stick to cotton clothes. Pure cotton clothes worn in summer can prevent you from prickly heat.

Oatmeal powder is an effective remedy to teat prickly heat. Adding a little amount of oatmeal powder in the water can give relief from inflammation and soothes the skin.

Herbal and non-perfumed talcum powders should be applied after bath. This will help to absorb extra moisture from the body and protect it from prickly heat.

Ice cubes are one of the best choices to treat prickly heat. Rub ice cubes on the affected areas to reduce the inflammation.

Sandalwood powder is a good home remedy to get relief from prickly heat. A paste of sandalwood mixed with rosewater provides a soothing effect to the skin. Fuller’s earth or multani miiti should be applied on the affected areas. This should be washed off after 15 minutes.

Cold water sponges can also work well. Soak a cotton cloth or a sponge in chilled water and apply on the heat rashes. This will give instant relief from inflammation and prickly heat.

Taking a cool shower or a cold water bath prevents sweating and soothes your skin.
