Home remedies for Mumps
The viral infections in the salivary glands form mumps. Generally, children between 2 and 12 years of age get affected by mumps. The kids must be given vaccines to avoid mumps. Mumps are contagious. It takes 7 to 10 days to cure mumps completely.
Do's and Don't's:
The clothes and utensils of the affected person should be washed separately to prevent the spreading of infections.
Children suffering from mumps should not be sent to school for atleast 7 to 10 days.
Patients suffering from mumps should not roam out in wind as this can spread the infections. They should take rest at home.
Coughing and sneezing of the patient can also cause spreading of mumps. Utmost care should be taken while the patient coughs or sneezes.
Citric juices should be avoided.
Home remedies of Mumps:
Mullein tea is a good natural home remedy for treating mumps. Application of a fabric soaked in mullein tea helps to cure swelling.
Mix dry ginger powder and water. Apply this paste around the ears. This reduces the swelling and pain too.
Margosa leaves possess anti-inflammatory properties. Powdered form of margosa leaves should be mixed with turmeric powder and applied on the cheeks and around the ears.
Avoid drinking acidic drinks. Carbonated water, lemon juice, tomato juice and orange juice should be strictly avoided.
Aloe Vera is also known to help in curing mumps. Application of aloe Vera gel gives relief from swelling and pain.
Asparagus seeds and fenugreek seeds should be powdered and mixed together in equal quantities and applied on the affected areas. This facilitates curing the mumps infections.
The leaves of banyan tree are also a good home remedy to treat mumps. Banyan leaves should be coated with butter and made warm. These leaves should be applied on the affected areas.
Warm betel leaves should be stuck with adhesive tape.
Drinking rice water with cow milk also helps to treat mumps
The patient should be given abundant liquids in form of soups, non-citrus fruit juices and fresh fruits also.
Spicy foods should be strictly avoided. Keep away from fried and oily food to treat mumps faster.
Ice packs should be applied to soothe the swelling and the pain.
