Home remedies for Indigestion

There can be several reasons for indigestion. It causes great uneasiness. The key causes of indigestion are:

•  Over-eating

•  Eating spicy and oily foods

•  Eating food that is not cooked properly

•  Eating in a hurry

•  Lack of exercise and physical activities.

Indigestion can result in nausea and vomiting, heartburn, bloating and abdominal pain. Indigestion can be treated with home remedies.

Lemon helps in curing indigestion. Take lemon juice and mix it in a glass of warm water along with 1 teaspoon of ginger juice and honey. This is an effective natural remedy to treat indigestion in a few minutes.

Placing a cold water towel on the stomach or applying ice packs on the belly can provide some relief from indigestion.

Drinking pineapple juice after every meal prevents indigestion.

Another effective home remedy to prevent indigestion is to sip coriander leaf juice. Add some salt to the juice and drink it two to three times daily to keep indigestion away. Coriander juice can also be added to buttermilk and taken cold.

Ginger tea also works well for indigestion. One cup of ginger tea should be taken to prevent the indigestion in the body. It can also be taken after meals.

Some fruits like oranges, pineapples and grapes help to cure indigestion. They also help in aiding the digestion.

Cumin seeds are also known to treat indigestion. Mix a teaspoon of cumin seeds powder in a glass of water and drink it.

Baking soda also provides instant relief from indigestion. Take one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water to cure indigestion.

Mint is also effective in treating indigestion. Take mint juice mixed with warm water.

Garlic prevents indigestion. Application of garlic oil on the stomach can provide some relief from indigestion.

How to prevent indigestion?

Avoid eating large meals. Take small meals frequently. Having 5 to 6 small meals is better than having 2 large ones. Chew the food properly. Drink herbal tea to avoid indigestion. Caffeine, smoking and drinking should be avoided completely. Do not eat much spicy and fried food. Exercise regularly. Chocolates should be restricted.
