Dry Skin Do’s and Don’t’s:
It is a myth that dry skin problem occurs just in winters. Even in the other seasons, skin can become dry by the use of harsh cleansers or having too hot or cold bath. If dry skin is not treated properly, it can become itchy, flaky and irritated. There can even be cracks in it.
How to avoid dry skin?
Sun is a major cause of dry skin. You should not step out in sun without covering the face and other exposed parts of the body. Always wear a sunscreen, a hat and a pair of sunglasses when you’re out in the sun.
Avoid the over-use of soap.
Don’t bathe in very hot water.
Keep your skin moisturized. For a greater effect, apply moisturizer when the skin is damp.
How to prevent dry skin?
Use of oily creams and moisturizers can help to treat dry skin. But this does not mean that expensive and fragrant creams must be used.
You can consult your doctor or pharmacist. They will be able to recommend some inexpensive perfume-free creams. You may also be able to get some samples from them.
Moisturizing shower gels and bath creams can also be used to avoid stripping off the skin’s natural oils.
Avoid using strong soaps and deodorants.
Use mineral water to wash your face to avoid dry skin at the face.
Glycerin, lemon juice and rose water mixture should be used every day before going to bed. This will not only prevent the skin from being dry, but also for cleansing.
Aloe Vera gel and Vitamin E oils should be applied on the dry areas.
To keep your skin lubricated, use almond oil daily. Gently massage the skin with almond oil before going to bed. Olive oil can also be used to avert dry skin.
A paste of avocado, one banana and half papaya can be useful in treating dry skin and clearing scars.
Honey is considered to be a boon for nourishing skin. Half tablespoon of honey mixed with rose water can help to clean and tone the skin. This can also be used for preventing dry skin.
