Constipation: Nothing to feel embarrassed
You need to know that constipation is not a disease. It’s a symptom. There’s nothing to get embarrassed about it. Millions of people across the globe experience constipation. According to a recent study, one person out of ten has this problem. A poor diet generally causes constipation. It is one of the most common gastrointestinal complaints in the US. Mostly adults over the age of 65 have complaints about constipation. Pregnant women may also have constipation. Some people pass motion twice a day, some others thrice a day. The frequency differs from person to person.
People who eat high-fiber diets are less likely to get constipated. The main cause of constipation is lack of fiber in the diet. Some of the other factors which cause constipation are inadequate intake of water, inadequate physical activity and exercise, eating disorders and many more. You should not avoid going to the bathroom for the bowel movements. Many people who do that can experience problems in bowel movements leading to serious problems after a long run. It is a misconception that the body gets poisoned intestinal wastes (feces) are retained in the body for a long time.
It is important that men should consume at least 38 grams of fiber daily, and for women. It should be 25 grams per day. To add fiber to your diet, eat 2 cups of fruits daily and 3 cups of vegetables daily. This is will reduce the chances of constipation. Try to increase the fiber content in your diet. Include bran cereals, rice, raw fruits and veggies to keep away from constipation. This will help you avoid constipation and reduce bloating. Ensure that you drink plenty of water daily. Exercise regularly to bid goodbye to constipation.
Most of the people ignore the problem of constipation. Chronic constipation may lead to problems and serious complications. See your doctor and get yourself checked if your constipation lasts for more than 2 weeks. Do not take laxatives, unless prescribed by doctor.
